Dr. MUGANGA Raymond

Dr. Raymond is an Associate Professor of Phytomedicine who previously worked at the University of Rwanda School of Medicine and Pharmacy since 2001 where he served as the Head of Pharmacy Department (2005-2007), head of Laboratory services and industrial linkage at Huye Biotechnology Laboratories Complex (2018-2022), the coordinator of training of the Center of Excellence for Vaccines, Immunization and Health Supply Chain Management (2021-2022). 

He has also served as a Visiting lecturer at the University of Liège in Belgium, and as an External Examiner at the University of Nairobi in Kenya. He also was the Chairperson of the Rwanda National Pharmacy Council from 2013 to 2019. He provided technical assistance as a resource person to the Ministry of Health in Rwanda since 2006 in formulating the Standard Treatment Guidelines, Drug Formulary, and essential medicines list. He is also currently the Chairperson of the NAPRECA (Natural Products Research Network for East and Central Africa) Rwanda chapter. 

 Dr. Raymond’s areas of interest are Traditional Medicine, phytomedicines, the rational use of medicines, clinical pharmacy, and pharmacometrics. He has been the principal investigator for various research projects and published a good number of peer-reviewed scientific papers. Some of his ongoing research are: Addressing the controversy around malaria treatment and prevention using Artemisia medicinal plants, and a clinical trial to compare the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of Triple Artemisinin-based Combination Therapies versus first-line ACTs + placebo for the treatment of uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria in Africa.
