Dr Peter RWIBASIRA

Dr Peter Rwibasira holds a BSc in Biotechnology from the Institute of Science and Technology (CST/University of Rwanda), a Master’s degree in Medical Biotechnology from Wageningen University in the Netherlands, and a PhD degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Liège in Belgium.

Dr Peter Rwibasira has over ten years (2010–2024) of experience in teaching and research at the University where he has been serving as a lecturer of biotechnology and molecular biology-related courses in the Biology Department at the University of Rwanda, College of Science and Technology. He also served as the Program Impact Lead in the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at the University of Rwanda. Throughout his academic and research career, he has demonstrated the ability to manage complex workloads, and research projects, as well as deal with competing demands efficiently. His ability to plan, prioritize, and organize effectively has been instrumental in successfully combining his PhD research, academic workload, supervision of undergraduate students, and research grant projects. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Peter actively participated in writing and leading research projects including “Diagnostics and Real-Time Testing of COVID-19 Virus (NCST-NRIF/COVID-19/006, 2020)” and “Society Resilience to Mitigate the Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic (NCST-NRIF/COVID-19/014, 2020)” which resulted in scientific papers published in peer-reviewed international Journals. He also participated in developing and implementing the current MSc program in Biotechnology launched in September 2023, where he has been leading the Industrial Biotechnology Option.

Dr Peter has expertise in Biotechnology and Molecular Biology Tools/Techniques and has been providing technical assistance to the National Reference Laboratory for capacity-building training related to disease surveillance, diagnostics, and ensuring the provision of quality laboratory services. Alongside his academic and research experience, Dr Peter can effectively perform in dynamic work environments and is passionate about innovative solutions that drive societal improvement and positive impact.
